Visit With Ashley Ramsay

On November 28th, my class was visited by one of the founding members and producer of Yeti Farm Creative, Ashley Ramsay. Yeti Farm is a 2D animation company based in Kelowna that has worked on such Teletoon shows such as Rocket Monkeys, and has also done work for commercials for companies like Starbucks.

She talked to us about how a 2D animation is produced, through each stages and the timeline to create a season. She had shown us a good example of this with a production sheet for Pirate Express.

I did find it interesting to see how all of the work per episode overlapped for each week, but to be honest I did not learn anything new. I had known much of the process before. but it was still nice to her more in depth about it from someone in the field. A couple years ago I talked with Greg Huculak, an animator from Vancouver, and his wife is also a producer and they both gave me some insight on the animation industry as Ashley did.

Overall I enjoyed her visit, I did find seeing the chart gave me a better understanding on the timelines they have to work with when animating cartoons like I would like to do one day.

Introduction

I have been drawing since I was 2 years old, and my love for it has grown since. 2D animation was always a part of my life, especially cartoons, and I would always rush home to watch Teletoon or YTV after school.

I want to pursue a career in television cartoons; right now I am considering storyboarding, but I imagine finishing school may change my mind to what I would prefer to do in the long run. In the end however, I want to at one time direct a cartoon.

This blog will be for me to document my year in school and what happens to me during this time. I will show off my art after each quarter, and talk about opportunities that we have been given through the course.
